Most people commemorate their 60th birthday with a giant slice of cake followed by a seriously long nap. But this year, Mike and Suzanne Levanas, parents of Asmi co-founder Danielle Levanas, will be celebrating their big days by riding in the first ever Asmi California Coastal Tour, fundraising for Asmi as they tackle a 450-mile bike ride along the California coast.
From September 23 through October 2, the couple will average 50 miles a day and travel from San Francisco all the way to Malibu. It’s an amazing way to ring in a new decade and support a great cause. Follow their training blog and donate!
Over on the East Coast, Asmi is riding the Tour de Bronx! New Yorkers, help us reach our goal of 18 folks riding 25-miles each as the counterpart to Mike and Suzanne’s 450-mile ride!
Who: Anyone looking to train for a fun ride with some fun people to raise money for a great cause!
What: Team Asmi will start the 25-mile ride together in The Bronx. For those up for more, board members Prentice and Sabrina will be leading a ride from Fort Greene to the ride starting location and back again, for an additional 28 miles through Manhattan.
Where: The ride begins near Yankee Stadium (The Grand Concourse & E. 161 Street) which is accessible from the 4/B/D trains. The ride through Manhattan will start in Fort Greene, and go over the Brooklyn Bridge to the car-free Hudson River Greenway that runs up the west side of Manhattan. When: Sunday, October 24th at 9:30 am. Weekly practice rides will be held on weekends leading up to the ride, and will be led by Asmi board member Sabrina Lau, an experienced urban planner and bicycle advocate who will help you get comfortable riding on city streets!
Why: Asmi picks up where relief aid leaves off – we’re dedicated to empowering survivors to process their pasts, reclaim their identities, and transform their communities through creative self-expression and literacy workshops. How: We’d love to have 18 folks riding 25-miles each in support of Mike and Suzanne’s 450-mile ride! Our fund-raising target for this ride is $7000 (or $389/person).
